Return to Home September 2024
A little celebrating 0.at the Wilbarger Humane Society - we recognize our Vernon PD Animal Control Officers Cody McGowen and Samantha Cothran for their help this month. September was return to home month for Best Friends Animal Society partners and by participating and just changing two of our normal day to day practices we were granted $1000 for the shelter with a chance at $10,000.
Vernon's ACOs were able to return to home (rather than bring to the shelter) some 21 dogs this month. Not only did it save the citizens on reclaim fees it kept animals safe in their homes which is always the goal with healthy dogs in good homes. They were able to do this because of microchips as well as identification on the dogs. Most times they were able to make contact with the owner and advise them how to better keep the dogs safe and home. Another 22 dogs were brought into the shelter (17 by ACO and 5 from the public) as stray and three of those were returned to home as well.
Several were posted online and located thanks to the hard work of the citizens of Vernon. Also during the month we microchipped 26 animals and updated 3 animals who were already microchipped. We passed out 43 PetHub tags that can be used to identify an animal if a microchip scanner or rabies tag is unable to be checked.
THANK YOU Vernon and ACOs McGowen and Cothran for all your help keeping Vernon's animals safe.
