Texoma Gives
Each year since 2016 we have participated in Texoma Gives. This is a one day giving event to bring awareness and much needed funds to Wilbarger and surrounding counties non-profits. We wanted to provide a place you can revisit the stories from past years as well as see some new stories of what your donations during Texoma Gives, and throughout the year, help us do for the animals. Also, while Texoma Gives is just one day out of the entire year, donations are welcome and needed all year long. Look back with us at Texoma Gives.
Eleanor
Eleanor came to us in very bad shape. She was dumped in Hardeman County and apparently had to fend for herself against who knows what. When we took her she had a severe wound to her ear and barely weighed three pounds. Lucky for Eleanor she had the heart of a fighter and after some gentle love and a few (OK several) chicken nuggets this sweet girl ended up at 12 pounds on her spay day! She is home now with one of the beautiful souls who had a hand in her rescue and has a sister who she is very much the boss of. Not every dumped dog gets the chance at this kind of ending. We are thrilled we got the chance to be part of hers.
Rocky
This is Rocky. He was one of 8 animals seized in a cruelty case by animal control. All of the animals were in bad shape. Rocky though had fight left in him. He had a strong will to live and despite what had been done to him he wanted to be around people. He did not snap or bite but was gentle and loving to all people, especially children. Rocky stayed with us. Five small chihuahuas went to rescue. Only two of the 8 were too far gone to save. Rocky now has a loving home with children and received his second chance. There are many like Rocky that deserve a forever home. But we have to have the funds to help these precious babies.
Julie Newmar
Meet Julie Newmar. She was a street cat. We know she had a human because she was very sweet when she arrived. She came from animal control with a baby we called Eartha. Julie, as you know, did an amazing thing by taking in two orphaned puppies as her own. She fed them, cleaned them, and loved them as any good dog mom would do. But what is amazing about Julie isn't that she took in babies who were not her own, but she took in babies that were not even her species. She did what was needed to help these boys survive. She is an example of what love is, what a good mom is, and what we should all strive to be. Julie and her babies went to rescue where they were adopted into loving forever homes. But there are many more like Julie that are still waiting for their forever.
Elle Driver and Dooneese
These two precious souls are Elle Driver and Dooneese. They are resident kitties at the Wilbarger Humane Society. Both of these babies came in with health issues and both showed workers at the shelter they had a strong will to live.
Elle had been under equipment at a local plant in 2017 and her sibling did not survive. She was clinging to life when she came in but decided, after being able to rest in the dark for a few days, to eat and respond to antibiotics. She is still super scared when things move too fast due to not seeing well in one eye but she loves everyone at the shelter and her best friend Yardstick.
Dooneese came in a year ago with what we thought was a clef palate or an injury from a dog. Turns out, it is just Dooneese. She never had problems eating but struggles to groom herself properly due to her deformity. She is also a fighter and has never let her sniffly nose get her down. She is getting braver hanging out in the office but loud noises still startle her.
